How to watch

This lecture starts on 15 October at 7:00pm (UK).

Summary

The 1876 novel Daniel Deronda by George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans’s nom de plume) has been described as the first Zionist novel—even though it was written 20 years before Theodore Herzl founded the Zionist movement. In this talk, Yanky asks what possessed the bestselling author of Middlemarch to tackle this very Jewish theme, and explores where she obtained her vast knowledge of Judaism.
