Jewish Literary Foundation
Bearing Witness: Documenting October 7 and its Aftermath

Please note this session will only be available to attend live.

At Jewish Book Week 2025, we were honoured to be joined by Raquel Ukeles, Head of Collections at the National Library of Israel and leader of its Bearing Witness Archive, and renowned historian Ilan Troen, whose daughter and son-in-law were murdered on October 7, 2023. Presented in partnership with the National Library of Israel, we are pleased to share this video with the Lockdown University community.

Raquel Ukeles explores the extraordinary task of documenting October 7 and its aftermath for future generations. Alongside her, Ilan Troen brings the perspective of both historian and bereaved father, reflecting on his family’s experience and on how we record, remember and memorialise events whose consequences are still unfolding.
