How to watch

This lecture starts on 17 August at 7:00pm (UK).

Summary

Five days after Ben-Gurion declared the Jewish State of Israel in May 1948, a major flashpoint was the huge Notre Dame monastery on the seam between the Old and New Cities. As a Jordanian armed column was about to break into Jewish Jerusalem, a blond schoolboy in Notre Dame stopped its advance by throwing a Molotov cocktail at the lead armoured car. For years, no one knew the identity of the schoolboy.
