Summary

The League of Nations had dramatically failed to halt German Nazism, thus at the end of World War II, the challenge was to replace the League with something stronger. The United Nations was beset with difficulties from the start as the world divided into democratic and communist states, as well as those seeking a middle way between the two opposites.
