How to watch

This lecture starts on 13 April at 5:00pm (UK).

Summary

The story of Berlin and its people, from the time of its WWII defeat through the postwar period, tells us far more than the history of one city. It tells of the desperate plight of peoples across Europe in the aftermath of the war, of the fast breakup of the victorious allies’ unity, and of the division of Berlin along with that of European division as a whole. The Berlin Wall became an iconic symbol of the Cold War. Less well known is that many former Nazis re-invented themselves after the war to lead full and profitable lives.
