Great Jewish Cities: Vilnius
How to watch
Summary
Vilnius was the last city in Europe to be christianised and it’s emblem was the iron wolf. To the Jewish people it was known as the Jerusalem of the north, a city where by the 19th century a third of the population was Jewish. It was home to the great rabbis, yeshivot, and Jewish theatres and other cultural venues. This presentation will also include some of the individuals who fled persecutions and went on to enrich and revolutionise the societies that took them in.
